Paper Tiger Association
The Paper Tiger is a catamaran designed by Ron Given of New Zealand in 1968. It is widely sailed throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Class rules allow hull construction from plywood, kevlar, fibreglass or carbon fibre. The boat is suitable for home built construction. The rig features an aluminium mast with a fully battened sail.
New Zealand Championship Regatta's have been held since 1969. Trans Tasman Interdominion regattas are held between the top 10 sailors from each country, and alternate between Australian and New Zealand venues.
To be eligible for Canterbury Catamaran trophies, skippers must be financial members of the Squadron. To be eligible for South Island, National and International Championships, skippers must be members of the New Zealand Paper Tigers Owners Association.

Canterbury Secondary Schools Teams Racing
Team sailing for secondary school sailors takes place on Wednesdays after school in Term 1 and 4. Teams of 6-8 sailors are welcome from any secondary school, or individual sailors can come down and be part of a combined team!
Team sailing is fun and social, involving sailing sunbursts and 420’s, together with rules knowledge. Cost is around $150 per term, which covers the cost of yacht hire and coaching. Over the past two years, there have been 40 sailors at Naval Point on Wednesdays – come and join the fun. There is the opportunity to attend regattas and even Nationals.

Canterbury Finn Association
Website: http://www.finnclass.org.nz/
The South Island Finn fleet is expanding in response to competitive sailing on the water and great camaraderie off the water. We are keen to keep increasing the number of sailors in this exciting, challenging and physically demanding Olympic Class sailing dinghy. The ideal weight for a Finn sailor is 90-110 kg, but lighter skippers can be competitive with modern carbon fibre masts and carbon reinforced sails. Apart from the Major Events the Finn fleet normally sails at Naval Point Club Lyttleton on Saturday afternoons. General enquiries or to come out for a sail contact Commodore Chris Wells.

Flying Fifteen: Canterbury Fleet
http://www.flying15.port5.com/
The Flying Fifteen is a high-performance "one-design" planing dingy which is now the largest keel-boat class in the world. It is capable of some 14 knots on a reach without the problems arising from capsize or trapeze and is easily transportable and stored. It is arguably the safest, most exciting small yacht available. Mixed crews are common.
Based at the friendly and family orientated Charteris Bay Yacht Club, the Canterbury Flying Fifteen fleet has a mix of modern world-class boats and the traditional classics. The ff is the largest class of one design planning keelboats in the world and with some of New Zealand’s top crews sailing in the fleet there is excellent and competitive sailing every fortnight.

Canterbury NZ Moth Class Association
Website: http://nz.moth-sailing.org/ or www.yachtingnz.org.nz/stewarts_gully_sailing_club/
The N.Z.Moth is a high performance single handed sailing dinghy, with a one-design hull and rig, based on the original 1946 design by Len Morris of Australia. Considerable freedom of choice as to deck, cockpit, rudder and plate, and spar details add interest and development potential to the class. But in essence, the plan shape, keel spring and flat square sections are one-design with tolerances.
Meetings are held at 20 Damien Place Chch. on the 1st Monday of Oct, Dec, Feb and April.

Keelboats
There are a large number of keelers in Canterbury sailing mainly in the Lyttelton and Akaroa Harbours. Young 88's are a very popular class and we enjoy competitive racing all year round. There are haulout and marina facilities in both Lyttelton and Akaroa, and we welcome visiting yachts. If you are interested in coming sailing, Naval Point Club Lyttelton runs a crew list to match prospective crew up with yachts requiring more people, check out www.navalpoint.co.nz for more information. Whilst there is no official keelboat class association, if you are interested in learning more about sailing Keelers in Canterbury, please check out either Naval Point Club Lyttelton or Akaroa Cruising Club on the Yacht Club pages.
