Learn to Sail
Many of the Canterbury Yacht Clubs offer a learn to sail programme for both adults and children over the summer sailing season (September through until April). Contact your local yacht club for more information regarding their upcoming courses. There are also a number of commercial providers offering learn to sail, and practical boating courses:

Akaroa Sailing School operates throughout the season offering a great way to experience the unique sailing waters of Akaroa Harbour. We supply all the equipment you need including yachts and sailing gear so you can just turn up and get out on the water. We have a range of different sailing dinghies and there is always a qualified coach to give instruction. No previous sailing experience is necessary, children and adults are welcome. Canterbury Sailing School
The Canterbury Sailing School provides dinghy learn to sail courses for children and adults at Lake Rua – out by Christchurch Airport. With a dedicated and experienced group of instructors drawn from local yacht clubs, the team is fresh and excited about helping the next generation of sailors get started on what has been described as "a sport for life".

Jack Tar Sailing
Jack Tar sailing offers charters and learn to sail courses on a classic Gaff Rigged Keelboat. Mike is a Yachting New Zealand certified level 3 seamanship instructor and offers NZQA Unit Standards for Sailing.

Coastguard Boating Education
Coastguard Boating Education is New Zealand's leading provider of recreational boating courses, with more than 40 core and specialty programmes available for all levels of knowledge and ability.
Theoretical and practical courses are available through a network of accredited providers throughout New Zealand.

Coastguard has over 1800 volunteers in New Zealand. Volunteers are trained to handle the many emergency situations that can occur out on the water. Training includes seamanship, boat handling, rescue techniques, navigation & leadership.
